INTRODUCING KLOTHO by Alexandra Theohari

Alexandra Theohari founded her brand KLOTHO, with the vision to embrace the ancient techniques of weaving and to support her local community in Rethymno, Crete. Derived from one of the three Moirai, Klotho was one of the goddesses of fate who spun the thread of life and destiny, often depicted with a spindle of thread.

Alexandra is now spinning a very modern story of her own with KLOTHO, a range of hand bags, clothing, rugs and other lifestyle products, spurred on by her love of traditional craftmaking and her passion for Greek Art History.

KLOTHO’s collections are inspired by historical motifs found on ancient Greek ceramics and textiles, along with the dense and colourful patterns seen in embroidery and needlework that are often unique to Crete.

A piece from KLOTHO goes beyond a fashion statement to one that represents a long cultural heritage of Greece, which through the thread of time thankfully lives on into the 21st century.

Treasure it forever.

THE KLOTHO COLLECTION

MEET THE CREATOR

Alexandra has reinvigorated an almost lost art form by adopting traditional weaving, embroidery and needlework into the production of her collections. She brings a fresh and modern aesthetic to her pieces, with geometric lines and minimalist designs. Alexandra sources the best materials and fabrics from all over Greece including from Soufli in Northern Greece, which is renowned for its premium-quality silk dating back to Byzantium.

TRADITIONAL MOTIFS

The patterns found on KLOTHO’s bags and garments are deeply rooted in classical Greece and the local textile traditions of Crete.

HAND WOVEN ON ANTIQUE LOOMS

The antique looms used by Klotho are not mechanical, instead they are operated by local expert weavers in Crete by hand. A kaftan or bag can take several days to complete from start to finish.
